Peck Slip reconstruction is replacing water main in the Seaport District
|
Starting Tuesday, October 9th, Water Street between Peck Slip and Dover Street will be fully closed to traffic for new water-main installation, along with other infrastructure improvements. The closure is the expected to be in place approximately six months, through early spring 2013. City Department of Design and Construction crews are performing the work, continuing the water-main installation that was recently completed on the block to the south between Beekman and Peck Slip. Vehicular traffic and parking will be completely restricted on the block, but pedestrian traffic will be maintained.
Also on October 9th, DDC crews will shift their cobblestone restoration on Peck Slip to the north side of the roadway between South and Water Streets. The south side cobblestones were recently restored. Traffic will remain two-way from Pearl to Water Street, but will be one-way eastbound from Water to South Street. Parking also will be removed during the project. The cobblestone work will continue for several weeks. Deliveries and garbage collection is being coordinated with local buildings and businesses.
The projects are part of the Peck Slip Capital Reconstruction project. Area stakeholders can sign up for Peck Slip Reconstruction weekly emails and address questions and comments to DDC Community Liaison Amelia Ramos at (212) 233-7184 or peckslipccl@gmail.com.
