Manhattan Bridge cable and suspenders are being renovated
|
The Manhattan Bridge Rehabilitation project is making steady progress, with city Department of Transportation crews now halfway done replacing the 628 bridge suspenders, and continuing to re-wrap the four main cables and replace their necklace lights. Known as Contract No. 14, the cable and suspender work is expected to be complete approximately June 2013.
Traffic changes are necessary for crews to safely complete the rehabilitation. As part of the project, one lane of the Manhattan Bridges lower roadway is closed 24 hours a day, except during westbound Brooklyn Bridge weekend closures.
Manhattan Bridge upper roadway lane closures occur during off-peak hours. However, at least four traffic lanes are open at all times, with lower-roadway lane-direction reversals to accommodate rush-hour traffic on weekdays. An HOV inbound lane is maintained during weekday morning rush hours.
Area stakeholders can sign up for Manhattan Bridge Rehabilitation (city project No. BRC156R) emails and traffic notices, and address questions and comments to the projects Community Liaison Teresa Toro at (347) 325-1622 or manhattanbridgeoutreach@gmail.com, or by calling 311.
