MTA Fastrack Full 2012 Schedule Posted

Overnight subway outages will continue through the end of 2012
Overnight subway outages will continue through the end of 2012

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's "Fastrack" program will continue through 2012, bringing full overnight service outages to segments of four Manhattan subway lines on pre-scheduled weeknights. The complete schedule through the end of the year is now posted at www.mta.info, as follows:

4/5/6 Lexington Ave. line, from Grand Central-42nd St to Atlantic Terminal:

  • June 11 to 15
  • September 3 to 7
  • November 5 to 9

B/D/F/M 6th Ave. line, from 59th St-Columbus Circle to W 4th Street:

  • July 23 to 27
  • September 24 to 28

1/2/3 7th Ave. line, from 34th St-Penn Station to Atlantic Terminal and South Ferry:

  • June 25 to 29
  • October 15 to 19

A/C/E 8th Ave. line, from 59th St-Columbus Circle to Jay St-MetroTech and World Trade Center:

  • July 9 to 13
  • October 22 to 26

Closures occur nightly, Monday night through Friday morning, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The MTA reports that when a subway segment is closed at night, customers can expect to add approximately 20 minutes to their usual travel time -- with additional subways running on nearby lines to help accommodate customers.

By providing a more productive work window for crews to perform critical maintenance and upgrades, New York City Transit crews will be safer by not working on live track and will avoid the interruptions of repeatedly having to clear the way for passing trains. Workers inspect track, repair or replace rails, and perform power and signal maintenance. Additional repairs will be made to platform edges, wall tiles and lighting, and power washing will be completed at some of the closed stations.

Alternative transportation options are detailed in announcements and posters on trains, in stations and on selected buses; brochures are available in both English and Spanish. Information also is available through social media, email and text alerts by subscribing online.
