This year’s holiday construction embargo begins on Monday, November 23rd at 6 a.m., when some projects will suspend operations to help pedestrian and vehicular traffic flow through the holiday season. During the annual embargo, the city Department of Transportation (DOT) voids all construction permits -- though project managers can request a waiver enabling work to continue, some with reduced work zones and other revised stipulations. The 2009 embargo also includes “black Friday” on November 20th from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.; it officially ends on Saturday, January 2nd, 2010. Specific streets affected by the embargo are listed on theDOT site here.
