1 WTC Podium and Upper Facade Glass Now Going Up

1 WTC spire and facade work is nearing completion
1 WTC spire and facade work is nearing completion

A view of 1 World Trade Center from afar reveals the steady progress of both the rooftop spire construction and the uppermost stories' facade. Now there is added activity on the lower floors, also called the "podium," with the glass-curtain-wall installation underway this month. More than 4,000 energy-efficient glass panels will adorn the mainly solid-concrete and steel podium, which encloses the skyscraper's lobbies and lower-level mechanicals.

The glass panels are designed to maximize sunlight while keeping the interior spaces cool. LED lights will be housed within the panels, to maintain a sparkling, illuminated facade after sunset.
