Mobile Monitoring for Dust and Noise

« back
tect

As part of its mission to mitigate the impact of construction on the Lower Manhattan community, the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center (LMCCC) performs regular surveys from the sidewalks surrounding various construction sites throughout downtown to monitor dust and noise levels.

Measurements for dust and noise are taken with portable equipment.  For dust, LMCCC uses a pDR-1000 portable air monitor; noise is measured with a Quest portable noise meter.  Measurements are taken a various points around the perimeter of each construction site to ensure adequate coverage of the site.

Mobile monitoring complements LMCCC’s network of stationary air monitors, ensuring that environmental performance commitments are being met at all significant construction sites in Lower Manhattan.

In the event of an elevated dust or noise levels, the LMCCC records the readings, determines the source, and takes corrective actions, for example discussions with construction managers, to prevent future similar occurrences.
