  Fourth of July Road Closures
The annual 4th of July fireworks celebration takes place on Saturday at 9 p.m., and with it come several road closures. This year, the fireworks will take place over the Hudson River, between 23rd and 50th Streets. To accommodate traffic to and from west-side viewing sites, several streets will be closed from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. in midtown west. Downtown, Water Street (Fulton to Broad) and Stone Street (Hanover Square to Coenties Alley) will be closed to vehicles for 4th of July festivities.
Traffic Shift at Fulton and Gold Intersection
On approximately Monday, July 6th, the city DDC will shift east- and westbound traffic to the south side of Fulton Street between Gold and Cliff. The change allows crews to begin excavation on the north side of Fulton as part of the water-main installation project. The work should continue for about four months. Crews are also at work restoring the Fulton Street roadway on both sides of Gold Street, including new curbs and sidewalks, working weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Leonard Street Closed for Cobblestone Repaving
The city DDC is wrapping up the capital reconstruction of Leonard Street, and has closed the roadway to through traffic between West Broadway and Hudson. Crews are repaving the roadway with cobblestones, as it was originally paved, starting at Hudson Street and moving eastward. Work began the week of June 8th, with crews working weekdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Curbside parking is eliminated on the block on weekdays.
BPC Vesey Street Made One-Way for Six Months
This weekend, the SDOT plans to make Vesey Street one-way eastbound in Battery Park City, from West Street to North End Avenue. The temporary traffic pattern begins Saturday, June 6th, and continues for about six months, through November 2009. Bus stops on the south side of that block will be relocated from the eastern to the western half of Vesey Street. The change allows both SDOT crews and Goldman Sachs crews to work on Vesey Street underground utilities.
West Street Lanes Shift from Liberty to Chambers
West Street final roadway repaving started in early June 2009 between Liberty and Chambers Streets. To accommodate the work, SDOT is shifting all traffic lanes eastward for approximately six months, through October. The three northbound lanes were shifted on May 30th; southbound lanes will shift to the east on Saturday, June 6th. To implement the southbound lane realignment, this weekend there will be several lane closures on West Street from Chambers to Liberty.
  Weekend Closures of Nassau/Beekman Intersection
Starting this weekend, the intersection of Nassau and Beekman Street will be closed for the city DDCs capital street reconstruction. The closures are an extension of the weekday work already active on Beekman, which includes sewer and other utility upgrades along with new sidewalks and curbs. The intersection closures will continue for approximately six months, through October 2009.
