Lower Manhattan Rebuilding Milestones
In the years since 2001, more than 100 public and private construction projects have made Lower Manhattan one of the busiest, most diverse construction zones that New York has ever seen. And while the World Trade Center redevelopment is at the heart of the rebuilding effort, dozens more projects south of Canal Street have either begun, have ended, or continue today.
LowerManhattan.info has tracked every one of the downtown construction projects since 9/11, maintaining “Project Updates,” an interactive downtown timeline, and feature stories of the milestones achieved. A weekly revised construction project and transportation/street-work maps also help visualize what the future of Lower Manhattan will look like.
Following is more information about and links to more details about the progress that’s been made.
Rebuilding Timeline
The LowerManhattan.info interactive rebuilding timeline -- in both Flash and HTML versions -- provides a comprehensive chronicle of the notable rebuilding and recovery milestones reached throughout the downtown area.
To view the timeline, click here.
The Flash version offers a succinct but powerful look back at 30 of the most significant events since September 11, 2001. Clicking on any image in the scrolling timeline will pull up a detailed description of the event.
The HTML version provides a closer look at the hundreds of events large and small that have helped shape the ongoing recovery and rebuilding process. Conveniently grouped by year and month, it allows you to quickly and easily find specific points of interest. Or you can choose to scroll through each consecutive year to get an in-depth glimpse of downtown's remarkable progress.
Whichever version you choose, check back often. New milestones are always being added.
