Broadway 1 reconstruction will replace aging infrastructure and roadway
Broadway 1 will reconstruct the main arterial between Ann and Rector Streets

In early summer 2013, the city Department of Design and Construction (DDC) plans to launch the $48 million Broadway 1 capital reconstruction project. The project is expected to begin at Rector Street and continue northward to Ann Street through approximately spring 2017.

During that time, DDC crews will replace the century-old water main, sewers, electric, gas, and other utilities inside the road bed -- helping to prevent breaks and emergencies for decades to come. Streets, drainage systems, curbs, and sidewalks also will be rebuilt, along with new pedestrian ramps, signs, and lighting.

The DDC is working with the Department of Transportation and Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center (LMCCC) to help with utility company, city agency, Community Board 1, and other local outreach.

As with all of the DDC capital reconstruction projects, Broadway 1 will be assigned a community-outreach liaison, who will assist with notification when temporary water shutoffs are needed, and provide brochures, newsletters, and regular e-mail updates to keep local stakeholders aware of its progress.
