This work is part of the Beekman and Park Place Reconstruction Project
Work began in May at the intersection of Beekman Street and Nassau Street.
As part of its plan to improve and update downtown’s infrastructure, the city Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is launching the capital reconstruction of Beekman Street and Park Place in late October 2007.

The city will post signs for traffic changes and road/lane closures as they occur. Together with the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center, the DDC also will host periodic community stakeholder meetings.

Summary

WORK NOTICE: Crews are currently working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily on all project segments.

Beginning April 2008: The city extended the reconstruction of Park Place into the Church Street intersection. The operation will be performed on weekends and at night to maintain daytime traffic. It includes sewer and other utility updates and be follow by curb, sidewalk, and roadway reconstruction. This intersection work is expected to be completed by fall 2008. Park Place utility work is now active between West Broadway and Church Street is slated for mid-September 2008 completion and then will move eastward to Broadway.

Beginning March 2008Spruce Street is temporarily one-way westbound between Gold Street and Park Row; Beekman Street also is one-way eastbound from William to Gold Streets, and traffic will be reduced to one lane between William and Nassau Streets.

The traffic changes allow city crews to reconstruct the roadway and install a new water main for phase two of the Beekman reconstruction project. It began on Beekman between Nassau Street and the parking garage (just east of Nassau). The Beekman and Nassau intersection will be fully closed on weekends as of May 3, 2008 to help expedite the project.

Extensive water main and utility work has closed Nassau from Beekman to Spruce as of mid-July through mid-October 2008.
