Residential conversion work began at 70 Pine St. in summer 2012
Interior demolition began at 70 Pine Street in fall 2012. The former AIG (American International Group) Building, located at the corner of Pearl Street, is undergoing renovation and conversion from commercial property to luxury rental apartments. The 66-story towers exterior and main lobby were landmarked in New York City in 2011. Built in 1932, 70 Pine is one of the tallest skyscrapers in Lower Manhattan and its gothic and Art Deco architectural details set it apart on the downtown skyline.
Owner Rose Associates is leading the project, with the help of construction manager Sweet Construction. Approximately 800 units will occupy 750,000 square feet in the limestone-clad building, with about 40,000 square feet of retail filling out the towers lower floors.
