Brooks Brothers

« back

Most Lower Manhattanites know Brooks Brothers as a longtime resident of One Liberty Plaza, where the popular maker of fine clothing has been a fixture since 1976. But did you know that Brooks Brothers got its start in Lower Manhattan and has been selling tailored suits to people living and working in the area for close to two centuries? Founded in 1818, the first Brooks Brothers store was located on Catharine Street, in what is now the South Street Seaport. As Wall Street grew, Brooks Brothers' customer base grew along with it.

Newly renovated in 2001, Brooks Brothers' two-level, 16,000-square-foot store at One Liberty Plaza was damaged during the World Trade Center attack and reopened on September 11, 2002.
